In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard enough.
What are the advantages and distadvantages of giving children this message?
better dealing with failures
the fact that its not an actual truth
Adolescents are been taught at homes in some parts of the world that they get to accomplish whatever they desire, as long as they put more efforts into it. In this essay, I will discuss how such idea affect the uprising of a child’s mind with many ways. Some can be beneficial like making the coming future generation work towards their dreams and goals in life, also it will allow them to better deal with failures. And some ways are rather more of a drawbacks, like the fact that it is not an actual truth, along with how it may limit them from trying another option.
Being able to try multiple times to get something, and actually give it the enough effort to land it, is a very difficult task and an important step in the process of achieving goals. With that idea printed in the mind of that now grownup man it allows him to deal better with failures, and have the patience for trying again. For example, I have actually tried to pass my IELTS exam for five times, and I only manage to do so on my sixth trial. The main thing that kept me trying is that I was under the impression that I will be able to make it if I kept learning more and trying again.
In contrary, such believe is actually not true, which is considered to be illogical. As we can try to do something within our entire life and never succeeding in doing so, which in this way it will end up actually preventing us from selecting another option that could have been achievable. This will lead in limiting the kid in a way that can make him only focused on one point of view, and never be able to try something else.
In conclusion, such cultural conception that working harder and trying more can get you what want, can direct the minds in both good and bad direction. Despite making us work better for our goals, it can also limit us from choosing a different path.
