There is no doubt that interviewing candidates for a job opening, is the main method conducted by companies in order to fill that opening. However being the main method does not mean that it is the most effective.
Face to face interviews can tell you a lot about the person, they are definitely important. However they do not reveal all what the companies are looking for in a candidate. there are other methods that can land companies a better fit person, as they don’t want to just fill that position. There could be a technical test designed to showcase candidate ability to do the job. As he will be given a question where he needs to demonstrate how he/she would solve it. One drawback with this is that not all positions can have such tests, and might be unfeasible to test some required skills. Also, employers can request candidate to fill a personality questionnaire that is designed to reveal some key personality traits. This would ensure that candidate will be able to communicate well with future team members, also if he/she is fit for company environment. Another thing to decide based on, would be checking candidate reputation with his listed references and previous employers. This will reveal any major issues with applicant.
I think the most effective way for getting a perfect fit employee. Is by conducting multiple methods, and not just relying on one. Each one of these method should be designed to ensure that a required skill or trait exists in a candidate.
