broken community bonds
technology and virtual communities
different backgrounds
more community activities
Nowadays community bonds are kind of broken, people no longer feel like they belong to certain community where they stay. In fact, they might not know their next door neighbour who’s been there for years! people are forming virtual communities online, where they get that sense of belonging more than in their actual community. There is also the fact that in urban cities most of the people actually came from other cities and possibly other countries, causing barriers to form within one community. Luckily there are some ways that can help in changing that, and help establishing close community.
We need to acknowledge the fact that, people from different backgrounds come with different interests. In which they usually get connected with fellow peers who share that interest with them online, who most of the time reside in different parts of the world. Instead, local communities can facilitate creating some monthly meetup where people get to share their hobbies and interests. This will pull people with similar interest together, and will also introduce new hobby to others.
One other thing that plays a major role, is that communities can’t really do much for their own benefit. They have very limited power in getting their requests heard by local authorities. I believe that if we gave enough power to those local authorities to decide on what kind of laws they would like to have or modify, this would promote community residence to get more together, and hear from each others, as they will be able to help and make their life easier by being able to make a change.
